25 years ago, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems like SAP, Peoplesoft, and Oracle Financials revolutionized the way Fortune 500 companies managed enterprise information. These systems consolidated previously disparate departmental applications that handled corporate accounting, supply chain management, manufacturing, and human resources; the outcome was an integrated platform that provided real-time insight into a company’s financials, inventories, production schedules, and work-in-progress. The resulting productivity improvements were so profound that today virtually no Fortune 2000 company today can compete without an ERP system in place.

A similar transformation is currently underway in the software engineering industry with Application Lifecycle Management (ALM). Most companies’ software development projects utilize their own department-level applications to manage requirements, designs, code, and test. This “tool fruit salad” results in poor visibility into software development progress, personnel that are not portable among projects, and ultimately, a significantly inefficient allocation of resources.

This webinar will introduce attendees to the concept of Application Lifecycle Management, the benefits it provides, examples of ALM adoption, and an overview of IBM’s flagship ALM solution: Rational Team Concert.
